MathSoc Committee Nominations now OPEN!

You can now nominate yourself to be on the next MathSoc committee. We're accepting all nominations until 5pm on Friday 25th March. Read this for more details.

I'm sure you'll all agree that this year has flown by, and so it's now time to think about nominating yourself to be on the 2011/2012 MathSoc committee! There are a number of different roles available, involving all different sorts of skills, so we're sure there is something for everyone!

Here's what roles are available:

  • President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • PR Secretary (Public Relations Secretary)
  • Publicity
  • Sponsorship Representative
  • Website Manager
  • Head Social Secretary
  • Social Secretary (Several positions available)

We understand that these roles are meaningless without a description of what is involved, so each current committee member has written a bit about what it is they do. Find these descriptions in this article.

If you like the sound of a particular role, and think you've got what it takes to be a MathSoc committee member, send us an e-mail to president@nclmathsoc.com, stating the role you are nominating yourself for. You can include (an optional) statement about why you would be good at the chosen role. You have from now, up until 5pm on Friday 25th March to get in touch.

The President and Head Social Secretary roles, we feel, can be carried out either individually, or by a pair. Because of this, when applying for these roles, please state if you are applying to either,

  • Solely take on this role
  • Share this role with another person (but you don't have anyone in mind to be your partner)
  • Share this role with another person (and you have decided this already with the other person). If you know who the person is you're sharing the nomination with, please give their name!

Once we have received all nominations, we'll hold a meeting between everyone on the current committee, and all of the nominees, to explain the process from there onwards. If there is a lot of competition for a particular role, all members of MathSoc will be invited to vote for who should take that position.

If you want to be involved with MathSoc, but aren't sure what you would be good at, get in touch with one of the current committee, and we'll try to help you decide! Keep in mind that you can apply for more than one role if you want; please state your first and second choice though, if you're applying for multiple roles.

And on a side note...

Just a quick reminder that our bowling tickets will go on sale tomorrow! £10 for two games of bowling, a pizza/pasta meal and transport to and from South Shields. Check the Bowling event for a reminder! Tickets will be on sale between 2:30-3:00pm tomorrow (Monday 14th March) in the glass box in the Herschel Building.
